My agency, Arcadia Communications Lab, recently shared with our clients a guide to communicating successfully on innovation in 2016. I’ll explore some of our findings at the Chief Innovation Officer Summit in New York on Dec 8-9.

Key # 1 — Stop talking to other innovators about innovation.
A powerful, vocal ecosystem exists to encourage and reward innovators for talking to other innovators about innovation. Dedicated news sites distribute content. Conferences and events promote it. Awards and rankings celebrate it, so businesses can claim to have accomplished it.
Unfortunately, publicity within this community focuses mostly on experiments with digital tech, and not on the real, more complex and potentially more impactful stories about the people and processes behind the innovation underway at most big companies.
Sharing innovative work outside the fishbowl should be a key tool for unlocking latent value in 2016…
